Nu Hair As Part Of
Transitions International Group Donates Hair to Help with Gulf Coast Oil Spill
Cleanup
Transitions member hair loss
clinics in North America, Europe, and Australia donate hundreds of pounds of
human hair to help with oil spill clean up along U.S. Gulf Coast Beaches.
Nu Hair is part of Transitions
International Group, the leading
non-profit hair replacement and hair
restoration organization, representing
more than 65 of the top independent hair
loss restoration clinics from around the
world, is donating hundreds of pounds of
human hair to help with oil spill
cleanup efforts along the beaches of the
United States Gulf Coast resulting as a
of the recent oil rig disaster in the
Gulf of Mexico.
It has been proven that human hair,
the ultimate renewable resource, when
enclosed in a simple nylon stocking,
absorbs more oil than the best man made
device.
"The cuticles on the hair literally grab
on to the oil and contain it within the
stocking", says Greg Taylor, Transitions
Administrator.
Transitions International Group is
sending hundreds of pounds of unused
hair, left over from the making of their
top of the line SensiGraft
hair replacement
for men and Reallusions
hair replacement
for women, as well as human
hair wigs, to a collection point in
Florida where they are assembled into
resources that will help clean up
Louisiana waters following the recent
Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Every year, an estimated 706 million
gallons of oil enter our planet's
oceans via discarded and spilled motor
oil, routine ship maintenance, air
pollution, large spill accidents,
offshore drilling and other sources.
Rather than adding waste to our
landfills, the donated hair is assembled
into
protective mats and booms along the
beaches of the Gulf Coast. Additionally,
when stitched together into a dense pad,
they can be used to clean up almost any
type of oil from an environmental oil
spill. These pads can be cleaned and
re-used up to 100 times, after which
they can be safely used as a totally
biodegradable natural plant fertilizer.
“If we succeed, we can help to minimize
the potentially horrible damage that
will occur to the beaches, industry and
wildlife along the Gulf," Alicia
Stevens, President of Transitions, said.
