Hair Transplant DFW

Hair transplant DFW guide; Hair transplants are medical hair restoration surgical procedures. Hair transplants surgery can improve your appearance, but the results won't necessarily measure up to your expectation. Discuss your ideas and expectations with your doctor who will perform the hair transplants surgery. Hair transplants candidate must have healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head to serve as donor areas for the hair transplantation. "Note that if you have diagnosed with alopecia areata, you are not a candidate to hair transplants,” said Friedman, a hair restoration specialist in Dallas

Medical hair transplants techniques

Today, most medical hair transplant surgeons are using "follicular unit transplantation"- in groups of 1, 2, 3 of hair for a more natural appearance.  Strips of hair including skin and its roots are taken from the donor area of the back and sides of the head where the hair is dense to the balding areas. A strip of scalp tissue that is removed from the donor area usually runs 1/2" to 1" wide and 4-5" long.  The open area from where the initial strip was taken is stitched together so that it can heal.  The doctor divides the strip of scalp tissue with the hair into individual grafts containing 1-2 hair, called micrografts, or follicular units.  Thousands of such grafts are needed to cover a small area of the hair transplants.
For doing a proper hair transplant session, the donor area of the hair graft has to be with very thick full hair so after hair is removed from this area it will not be noticeable. Surgeons have to be cautious about how close together they place the grafts of hair to ensure proper hair nourishment. Permanent scarring of bald strips will be left in this back hair area, which is covered by dense hair. The size of the resulting donor scar may vary according to the skills of the individual physician. Follow-up hair transplants are often needed to achieve the desired density of hair in the balding area. It takes 4 to 6 months after the hair transplant surgery for new hair to grow. Skilled doctors can perform natural looking hair transplants. Check the doctor’s reputation of his past hair transplants experience.

Who is a good candidate for surgical hair transplant?

According to Dallas hair transplant doctors, your are an excellent candidate for hair transplants if you are in the beginning stages of male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness and have thick hair in the donor area. People with the large bald area should not attempt to do surgical hair transplant procedures as a hair treatment for hair loss. Note that if you have diagnosed with alopecia areata, you are not a candidate to hair transplants.

What problems are associated with hair transplants?

Hair transplant presents several problems as natural hair loss continues its progression after the operation and no one can not stop hair loss and it's the natural progression. The new hair that was transplanted might fall out too.  Be aware of a slight potential risk of bleeding, scarring or infection. Also, the results can be disappointing, if the hair is thin, there is an obvious hairline where the hair was implanted, wild hair in the crown area, or a fuzzy re-growth etc.

Are there surgical procedures other than hair transplants?

In addition to hair transplants, there are other surgical hair restoration procedures called scalp reduction or flaps surgery. This surgical hair restoration treatment  involves taking the skin with the hair and pulling it together to cover the balding area. The results are not attractive, and hair replacement or wig will be a necessity to cover it.
