Hair loss occurs when an enzyme converts the hormone testosterone on the scalp to dihydrotestosterone. DHT attacks the hair follicle and shrinks it. For that reason, hair becomes thinner and may stop growing entirely.

Also, the hair loss will likely slow down and eventually stop once hormone levels are stabilized and in the normal range. In his book, “Solved: The Riddle of Illness,” Stephen Langer, M.D., recommends evening primrose oil for symptoms of insufficient fatty acid, which are very similar to hypothyroidism. He writes that primrose oil is an excellent source of essential fatty acids.
